It's about risk reduction to improve the quality of our region's groundwater and your personal groundwater supply. this program is funded through Public Act 216 of 1994, which assesses a surchage to nitrate fertlizers and pesticides. The revenues generated are to be used to help farmers and homeowners undertake management changes that will reduce the threat of groundwater contamination on their property. The bulk of the grant funds will be used to deliver on-site technical assistance to landowners and to provide cost-share funds to landowners for closing abandoned wells, installing anti-backflow devices on agricultural wells and implementing other practices that protect groundwater.
