A
conservation district is a subdivision of state government. The
Michigan Department of Agriculture enforces the
rules for conservation districts. Conservation districts
focus on natural resource problems and solutions, and promote sustainable agriculture practices.
There
are 3000 conservation districts in the United States and, with
almost one in every county, conservation districts improve
the quality of life for every American. Conservation districts
help in the following ways:
- Provide local conservation leadership,
teach the value of natural resources and encourage conservation
efforts
- Promote farm conservation practices that
protect soil, water and related natural resources
- Protect groundwater resources and our lakes, rivers and streams
- Promote planting of trees and other land covers
to hold soil in place, clean the air, provide cover
for wildlife
and beautify neighborhoods
