Great for determinate species such as oaks, maples, and other hardwoods that you want to get tall - not the best choice for fruit trees or evergreens/conifers. For fruit trees, use bark protectors for rodent protection and to deflect sunlight in winter, and use tall enclosure fencing such as chicken wire, snow fence, etc. that will allow for lower branches as well as accommodate the width of the tree and branches - tall enough to keep deer out - best to plan for about 8-10' to account for snow depth during the winter.
