Our Mission

Our mission as stewards of the environment is to improve the quality of life for residents of Emmet County, by protecting and conserving our natural resources, promoting sound sustainable agriculture practices, and providing educational opportunities for the community.

We provide and support a broad range of natural resources services:

  • Spring tree sales 
  • Native plant sale (summer)
  • Educational workshops for the public, schools/classes, and organizations  
  • Provide natural resources expertise to the public, local municipalities and state, federal, and tribal government agencies 
  • Native and threatened/endangered species expertise 
  • Invasive species expertise, surveys, and control
  • Site assessments for landowners (by request)
  • Vegetation Assurance 
  • Organize forest and river clean-ups for open dumps  
  • Conduct Monthly Board meetings (open to the public)
  • Support MAEAP program and USDA NRCS

* Please note that ECD does not sell soil testing or water testing kits

​Regular District Board meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month and start at 9:30 am unless noted otherwise.

​Our volunteers provide assistance with the Spring & Fall Tree Sales, the Native Plant Sale, workshops, the Annual Meeting, assisting with maintaining the Educational Rain Garden, invasive species projects, and restoration projects.
