2025 Spring Fruit Tree Workshops: ECD has 2 workshops scheduled for Spring 2025 with Steve Fouch, owner of L&S Tree Care & Nursery, LLC and former MSU-Ext Specialist. The cost for each workshop is $25, or $40 if you register for both. Please pre-register! 1.) PLANTING/NEW FRUIT TREE CARE PRESENTATION: Participants will learn about tips for planting backyard fruit trees with success. Topics include fruit tree selection, planting site selection and preparation based on your needs and your site, early training methods, nutrient sources for your site, management/care such as insect and disease management, and proper harvesting and storage of your bountiful fruit! Both fruit trees and small fruits require special attention to detail when planting that first year. If fruit plants are carefully handled during that first year, your survivability is enhanced greatly! Presentation to be held indoors.

2.) ESTABLISHED TREE CARE PRESENTATION & PRUNING WORKSHOP: Participants are invited to a local orchard to learn the latest pruning techniques to ensure strong trees that will yield the highest quality fruit for the longest time. Properly trained/pruned fruit trees will result in the best cropping and quality for your enjoyment. We will put into practice all the tips that we covered in the previous presentation session. We will work on trees from planting time, into bearing years and even some older more neglected trees. This will be an excellent hands-on workshop. This workshop will primarily be outdoors so please dress for weather - warm clothes, field boots, hat/gloves.
